What Are Casino Free Spins? Wagering, Value and What They Are Not

Free spins are bonus rounds on a named slot, usually with wagering on winnings — not cash, not a no-deposit promise, and not the same as a demo.

Casino free spins are a promotional grant of spins on one or more named slot games. You do not pay the stake for those spins. Winnings are usually bonus funds with wagering, a max cashout, a game list, and a deadline — not withdrawable cash sitting in the cashier.

This is the English explainer for “what are free spins.” It is not a no-deposit directory and not a duplicate of the German Freispiele ohne Einzahlung guide. UK players looking for free demo slots should use the demo library — demos are not a bonus.

What you actually receive

A typical package: 20, 50 or 100 spins on a listed slot, at a fixed stake (for example $0.10). If a spin pays, that win goes to a bonus balance. You then must wager that balance a stated number of times before withdrawal. Some offers cap total winnings from the spins (for example 10× the theoretical spin value).

Free spins attached to a deposit welcome are part of the match package. Free spins without a deposit are a different, rarer product. Rehanak does not invent no-deposit spin codes. See the bonuses hub and, for German no-deposit cash claims, 15 Euro ohne Einzahlung.

The clauses that decide value

ClauseWhy it matters
Stake per spin100 spins at $0.01 is $1 of theoretical action
Eligible gameA dead slot you would never play is marketing, not value
Wagering on winnings35× on $20 of spin wins is $700 of playthrough
Max cashoutA $50 cap makes a feature hit mostly cosmetic
ExpiryHours, not weeks, is common
Game weightingLive and tables often contribute 0–10% toward clearing

Worked example (hypothetical, not a live Rehanak offer): 50 free spins at $0.20 = $10 of spin action. You “win” $12. Wagering 40× on those winnings = $480 through slots. At a 4% house edge the expected loss on that clearing is about $19 — more than the $12. The banner still said “50 free spins.” Price this class of offer in the bonus calculator by treating the spin winnings as the bonus amount and the deposit as $0 if it truly is no-deposit.

What free spins are not

  • Not a demo. Demos on games cost nothing and pay nothing. No wagering, no KYC, no cashout.
  • Not cash. Until wagering clears (and KYC passes), winnings are restricted.
  • Not a $200 no-deposit. We do not publish unverified “no deposit $200” articles.
  • Not UKGC play just because the blog is in English. Licence and geo sit on the operator.

No-deposit free spins are a separate claim

Third-party tables recycle expired codes. If our directory has not verified a no-deposit spin grant against live T&Cs, we say so. Deposit free spins in a welcome package are the usual product.

How operators use them

Spins pull you onto a specific title (often a new release) and into an account. The house edge of that slot still applies on every free spin and on every clearing spin after. Free spins do not “beat RTP.” They change who pays the stake for a short burst, then the wagering clause puts you back on the same math. Background: casino house edge.

Short questions

Q: What are free spins in a casino?

A: Promotional spins on a named slot. You do not pay those stakes. Winnings are usually bonus money with wagering, caps and a deadline.

Q: Are free spins the same as a demo?

A: No. A demo is an unpaid practice game. Free spins are a bonus contract on a real-money product after you register (and often after you deposit).

Q: Do free spins have wagering?

A: Almost always on the winnings, sometimes with a max cashout. Read the bonus T&Cs, not the banner.
